Strategic Internet Public Relations

I really enjoyed this class. I’ve learned so much about the world of PR, and it’s safe to say it’s changed how I think about communication. From navigating crises to crafting engaging messages, every lesson brought something new to the table.

One of the biggest takeaways for me was how important ethics are in PR. It’s not just about pushing out a good story; it’s about being honest and transparent. The PRSA Code of Ethics really drove that home. Moving forward, I know that making ethical decisions will be key to building trust and keeping a brand’s reputation intact. When companies prioritize honesty and accountability, they build stronger, lasting relationships with their audience.

Crisis management was another major eye-opener. Studying the United Airlines case showed me just how quickly things can spiral if a company doesn’t respond with sincerity and empathy. Taking responsibility, communicating clearly, and acting fast are lessons I’ll carry with me when handling future challenges. Having a solid crisis communication plan is essential, and this course taught me how to stay calm and respond effectively when things go south.

I also had a lot of fun working on the press release for Oo-de-Lally Coffee’s community night. It was a hands-on way to learn how to capture a brand’s voice and get people excited about an event. Storytelling is such a powerful tool, and I’m excited to use this skill in my future projects. Knowing how to create authentic, engaging content that connects with an audience is something I know will benefit me long-term.

Planning the distribution strategy for Oo-de-Lally Coffee was another highlight. Learning how to choose the right channels, target the right people, and maximize visibility gave me a solid foundation for running effective PR campaigns. Social media, local news outlets, and community partnerships? Bring it on! It was also great to understand the importance of tailoring messages for different platforms and tracking their success using analytics.

All in all, this course has given me practical skills and insights that I’m excited to apply in the real world. Whether it’s writing press releases, managing crises, or building relationships with the media, I feel ready to take on whatever comes my way.
